Pro-active strategies towards ending violence against children and women is what GVRC strives for in its primary prevention programs. That’s why we engaged the children from Reuben Primary School in a pilot self-defense class at Mukuru kwa Reuben slums. This is an after school programme whose objective is to equip the children with life skills to better manage violent situations and be able to make life – saving decisions.
The class, led by Corporal Nesmus is designed to use a more practical approach that’s also child participatory. The kids proved to be more flexible than the tutor during the practical lesson! We are very much excited about this child protection programme and so far, we can see some positive feedback.
