GVRC has been at the forefront in the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Kenya since 2001. We’ve placed a lot of focus on sexual reproductive health of women & girls, access to justice, protection and service provision. Whilst these interventions continue to be key priorities, it is vital to complement these efforts by addressing root causes of Gender Based Violence by involving boys and men. These interventions strive to create societies where violence is unacceptable to all by addressing social norms, attitudes and behaviors.
Men’s primary role in society is to Love, Care and Protect the women and girls in their lives. Reported statistics in GVRC show that over 90% of the reported perpetrators are men. GBV disempowers half of Kenya’s female population with vices such as rape, defilement, child marriage and other harmful traditional practices. Current statistics stand at 56% women, 36% girls being affected with 5% boys and 3% men also falling victim to violence.
Become 1 in A Million is a national social movement calling for action on individuals to stand in solidarity against GBV. It aims to drive on personal commitments in fighting the epidemic. What can YOU do to promote gender equality and non – violence.
The primary objective is to create a mass movement of individuals who will actively participate in ending Gender Based Violence in Kenya. The aim is to sign up 1 million individuals.
